Responsibilities
Tasks
- Prepare engineering designs and drawings
- Develop and prepare design sketches
- Prepare construction specifications, costs and material estimates
- Write technical reports
- Write specifications
- Estimate costs and materials
- Complete documentation packages and drawing sets
- Examine drawings for conformity and errors
- Consult with client, engineers or production specialists to establish product requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints/sketches/specifications
- Using computer aided design and drafting (CADD) tools and software (AutoCAD), create and/ or modify technical interior design drawing sets, including Floor Plans, Furniture Plans, Interior Elevations, Sections, & Details, Reflected Ceiling Plans, Electrical Plans, Millwork & Furniture Drawings, and any other drawings required for interior design plan and specification integration.
- Provide technical expertise and support in computer aided design and drafting (CADD) within the interior design department.
- Support interior designers in planning and drafting plans.
- Analyze, review, and mark-up technical drawings developed by Drafting Technicians and Interior Designers.
- Review Shop Drawings.
- Provide training, support, and guidance to Drafting Technicians.
- Improve and maintain current interior design Drafting standards, templates, systems, and processes; support the creation of technical specifications and manuals.
- Coordinate with other disciplines for document, system, and process alignment; serve as liaison between Architectural (Permitting) and Interior Design groups.
- Research local, national, and international Building Code and American Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, aligned to project locations across Canada and the USA.
- Understand design principles, qualities of materials, and ergonomic factors.
- Maintain accurate records and documents of all CADD work.
- Participate in project meetings.
- Apply strong working knowledge of computer aided design (AutoCAD) software programs.
- Utilize strong problem-solving skills, and work independently with minimal supervision.
